Powerful Readers tutors are recruited from the community to work one-to-one with students on a daily basis. Trainers receive 20 hours of intensive training to provide 1st and 2nd graders a highly structured and predictable routine toward the goal of raising their reading skills to at least grade level after one year. Trainers commit to a full school year, providing the consistent attention and practice that children need at this critical stage in their learning. The program is extremely successful due to the dedication of these tutors working within a proven model, imparting the basic skills needed to read.
