Powerful Schools places an organizational emphasis on creating strong evaluation and assessment tools. We evaluate the work of tutors on a monthly basis, using a checklist of instructional criteria, including accurate and effective lesson delivery, level of preparedness, behavior management, and positive modeling. Students participating in Powerful Readers are assessed every ten lessons with mastery tests developed by Washington Research Institute. After successfully passing each mastery test in letter sounds, sight word, decoding/segmenting, and fluency, students are eligible to move on to the next level of instruction.
